Approach Dating Wins First Place in OPO Startups Pitch Competition

(St. Louis, Missouri), (11/22/22) – Last week, Approach co-founders Allison Cousins and Riley Foster won first place in the 7th annual OPO Startups pitch competition. Approach Dating is a St. Louis-based dating app that connects people in person at local businesses and events so that singles can evaluate chemistry authentically.

“The science shows that algorithms fail to predict interpersonal chemistry,” says Cousins. “In order to see if a match is a good fit, people have to be face to face. Approach makes in-person interactions happen so that people can stop dating on their phones and start genuinely connecting.

OPO Startups is an innovation hub and coworking space for entrepreneurs, remote workers & small businesses. As a part of STL Startup Week, the organization hosts a pitch competition for early stage companies in the St. Louis region. Four companies were selected to pitch to a panel of local entrepreneurs and business people, and Approach took home first place and $1,500.

“We’re grateful to OPO for the opportunity to share Approach with the St. Charles community,” said Foster. “We have a number of upcoming developments, and this prize will take us one step further towards realizing our vision.”

Approach Inc. was founded in St. Louis in 2020 to bridge the gap between online dating and meeting in person. Approach empowers users to forge real human connection and embrace individual preferences by connecting people in real-time in safe, low-pressure environments because we believe that you can only find your person if you’re in person. We invest in the local economy by partnering with businesses to feature their establishments within the app as meetup sites and by facilitating singles events at their businesses.
